Although facing the main road, the winter room offers a unique and peculiar living experience: Open stonework on the walls and old wooden floors extending to the generous bathroom, are reminiscent of days gone by. The alcoves with their nooks and small doors hint at their traditional models. Getting into the alcoves requires some skill, but the reward is a cosy bed. The small bench at the window is just the place for a meal or for browsing in the berge's books. A fun pastime when cooking or washing at the kitchen unit is to watch original Aschau inhabitants and "interlopers" go about their daily business.
