Winter sports

Skiing

The gondolas of the Kampenwand - Aschau's landmark mountain - cable car can be seen from berge and reached within a few minutes' walk. They take you to one of the last ski regions of an altitude of 1.550 meters without artificial snow. Beside the dable car there are two chair lifts and one drag lift at your disposal.
A small ski region in Sachrang is especially suitable for children and for eginners or grown-ups intending a skiing comeback.

Skitouring

You will find wonderful skitouring routes in the mountains of the Prien Valley: Kampenwand, Geigelstein and many others. Those who need a guide or the necessary equipment are advised to contact Michael Paul and Georg Steigenberger.

Tobogganing

The quiet toboggan run near Sachrang is within easy reach. Snow-tubing on the Kampenwand promises more thrill, when you race down to the valley on tubed tyres that can be hired at the Sonnenalm, situated immediately beside the cable car. However, the probably greatest tobogganing challenge is Germany's longest natural toboggan run. The trails starts at Riesenhütte and ends at the parking area Lederstube at Frasdorf, covering 7.2 km. Toboggans can be hired at Riesenhütte as well as at Lederstube.

Ice-skating

You can experience winter pleasures in crystal clear air and iceness in the shallow Chiemsee bay "Schafwaschener Winkel" near Rimsting. Very often this is the only frozen stretch of the lake. You can also do your skating rounds at the Aschau openair swimming-pool. Granted, it is smaller than the Chiemsee bay, but you can be sure there is ice that carries your weight.

Winter hiking

From Aschau to Sachrang the Prien Valley provides various wonderful trails for winter hiking. Of those the most impressive is the Panorama Trail on the Kampenwand. The trail leads from Sonnenalm via Andachtskreuz to Steinlingalm.

Snowshoeing

You are better off in snowshoes (to be hired at Georg Steigenberger's in Aschau) than in hiking-boots. For the silent experience of nature, experienced when snow-shoeing, you can hire a guide.

Cross-Country skiing

The Prien Valley offers 18.5 km of double track cross country trails. In Sachrang 3 km of this trail are lighted in the evening.
There is another short trail of 4 km in the centre of Aschau.
Georg Steigenberger offers courses for all kinds of cross-country ski styles.
