On land

If neither the mountain is calling, nor Lake Chiemsee with its royal castle, numerous nearby walking paths in and around Aschau offer a good alternative.

Lingering on a bench is always an arrival as well. The 'Entschleunigungsweg' (which translated means deceleration path) with around 20 theme benches offers several opportunities to do so. The one-hour high trail offers beautiful views of the Aschauer Valley, Hohenaschau Castle, the parish church with its characteristic double towers and the peaks of the Kampenwand. Even with a baby carriage, the trail is easy to walk, except for a small detour.

The Bärnsee nature reserve in the middle of unspoiled moorland is one of the most popular destinations for nature lovers and families. Starting point for the comfortable, approx. 1-hour hike around the Bärnsee is the moor bath in Aschau. The walk can easily be combined with a visit to Café Pauli.

Also the way to the 14 km distant village Sachrang can become a goal. The approximately 4-hour hike through the wild and romantic Priental valley is varied and almost without any significant ascents. In winter, however, it is not possible to hike along the valley hiking trail, as an intermediate section is prepared as a cross-country trail. For the way back to Aschau you can use the bus free of charge with our guest card.

If you want to relax in nature and enjoy culture, you should definitely visit DASMAXIMUM. The 30-minute walk to Traunreut is well worth it, as Heiner Friedrich's private collection displays important works of art from the 1960s to the present day in spacious halls. Besides more than 20, mostly large-format paintings by Andy Warhol, the impressive collection includes works by Georg Baselitz, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Walter de Maria, Imi Knoebel, Uwe Lausen and Maria Zerres.
